The Canopy Collection is a collaboration between conservation biologist/designer Dr Susy Paisley and
interior designer Cecilia Casagrande, a color and pattern maven.

This collection is inspired by the magical feeling of being under the canopy of a tree: gazing upwards, sheltering, dreaming. Designed specifically for ceilings (though happy to be used on walls and fabric), the “Los Cedros” cloud forest design is the second of three multi-directional, multi-dimensional prints.

This design is a tribute to Los Cedros, an unbelievably special cloud forest reserve in Ecuador. It has an almost mythic status around the world for people trying to figure out ways to conserve nature. It is famous for its astounding diversity with ~400 species of birds, 260 orchids, monkeys, bears, fungi, moths… the place even has its own rainfrog that changes from spiky to smooth and back while you look at it! But Los Cedros is mainly famous as a sort of poster child for the Rights of Nature movement.

In 2008, Ecuador became the first country to change its Constitution to assert that nature has the same rights as people. The new law remained untested until 11 years later, when José DeCoux, Los Cedros’ founder, used it to defend the reserve in court against a mining incursion. And won. In one move, the Ecuadorian Supreme Court’s verdict turned Rights of Nature from a constitutional idea into a powerful practical tool with global implications.
